US Forces Targeted a 'Big Complex' in Venezuela, President Trump Claimed Without Offering Details.

Ex-President Trump has claimed that American military assets targeted a "major facility" in Venezuela in recent days. But, the former president did not specify the exact nature or site of the target, and officials have issued no additional clarification from his team.

Vague Remarks Made During a Radio Interview

"US forces just knocked out – I'm not sure if you read – they have a big plant, where the vessels originate. Two nights ago, we destroyed it. So we targeted them very hard," Trump allegedly informed Republican donor and businessman John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Potential Implications of a Verified Strike

If a American military action were to be confirmed, it would constitute the initial ground target hit since the US Department of Defense initiated a expansion of US military presence in the region to interdict drug traffickers that the former administration alleges operate under the authority of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

The initial objective of the force deployment has since morphed into a quarantine aimed at disrupting the nation's oil exports.

Online Video and Official Claims

Trump has for some time indicated that US forces are ready to expand the military campaign by hitting targets inside Venezuela, a tactic that would in theory require legislative authorization.

Online video posted on social media on 24 December appeared to show an detonation allegedly from an industrial zone in Zulia state. However, the footage or the site in question has not been corroborated.

An administration official allegedly informed a media outlet that the former president was referring to a narco-trafficking site in his comments.

Response and Ongoing Military Posture

The Caracas administration has remained silent on the incident Trump described. Additionally, there have been no corroborating news from Venezuela regarding it.

The buildup of US military in the area – a stance certain officials have called a sea blockade – constitutes the most expansive naval operation of his time in office.

Sources have stopped short from labeling the operation as a full blockade, but have stated that around 15,000 personnel are positioned across the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, including a carrier strike group, F-35 aircraft, and Coast Guard cutters to implement current economic sanctions.
